the New Deal
the New Deal: After Franklin D. Roosevelt became president in the depth of the great depression in 1933, he made Congress pass of large number of acts, with the purpose of preventing the further worsening of the economic situation and helping the needy people. These policies were known as the New Deal. Its major components are strengthening government regulation and control of banking, establishment of social security system, stimulating the recovery of industry and agriculture, and raising the role of labor. The New Deal did help overcome the most serious economic crisis of the capitalist system up to that time. (p.260)
